Description
Week 16 of my 52 Week Project
This week I use an older photo once more. During my stay in Chile I also visited el Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina (near El Calafate). It's one of the few glaciers that are still growing, apart from that the glacier is famous for its rupture. When the glacier reaches a certain length it devides the Lago Argentina into two parts, creating a natural dam of ice. The smaller part of the lake has no outlet and thus the water rises. Once the pressure of the dammed water is high enough, it breaks the ice barrier, resulting in a spectaluar wave and several "icebergs". After that the circle of growing, building the dam and breaking through starts anew.
